National Association of Midnight Basketball League, Inc.The Midnight Basketball League is a nationally heralded community outreach program the offers safe, constructive alternatives for at risk youth, both boys and girls, between the ages of 13-28 during "high crime" hours. It is the most effective program for the targeted population. Components include case management of participants, counseling, and mandatory workshops. We strongly enforce the phrase "No workshops, No jump shots!". These workshops focus on education, job-training and employment, personal development and responsibility, health, and conflict resolution. Well-run organized basketball games are used as an incentive to participate in the program. Workshops are conducted by community organizations, local agencies and other individuals offering pertinent information to participants with topics ranging from job interviewing skills to financial management and many more. The Midnight Basketball League has been featured nationally on 60 minutes, ESPN, WorldNews Tonight, MTV, SportsChannel, CNN and other broadcast and print media. The program was designated the 124th Point of Light by President George Bush in 1991. |
