International African Association
The IAA is a UK based charity/NGO established by professionals for the advancement and improvement of the quality of life of the African poor.
Members of the IAA have numerous high qualifications and worldwide experience - members include Medical Doctors, Civil Engineers, Chartered Surveyors, Lawyers, Economists, Managers, Educationalists, Bishops and Priests.
The IAA was registered by a Trust Deed by the Charity Commissioners for England and Wales in February 1995, and operates as a guarantor and overseer of charity projects and works aimed at assisting the African poor. It does so by collaborating with and entering into partnership with local NGOs to curtail any possible misappropriation of donor funds, gifts, aid, etc.
The IAA also seeks to advance public awareness of problems in Africa, and to promote education and civil society improvement, especially in the fields of children's and women's rights, primary health care, sustainable development, forestation, agriculture and food security.
The IAA also seeks to combat environmental degradation.
The IAA works closely with local, national and international NGOs in Africa and the North, international organisations in the UN system, research institutions and documentation centres.
The target and beneficiaries of the IAA's work include the most vulnerable in African society - children and women, people who are disabled, rural communities, orphans, the elderly and the urban marginalised group.
A number of strategies have to be deployed to correct the chaotic situation poor Africans find themselves in. The establishment of the IAA was part of the first strategic response to this urgent need - an NGO which focuses on the main problems besetting the African continent.
