P.A.L.S Pet Adoption and Lifecare SocietyHow We Got Started and What We Have Accomplished P.A.L.S. was founded by a local Veterinarian in 1996 and received non-profit status in Jan 2000. Over the years we have been able to place about 60 cats and 20 dogs into loving homes a year. Our animals are often placed in foster homes until permanent homes can be found. All of our cats are FeLV/FIV negative. If an animal has an incurable disease it is placed in an animal hospice where it is taken care of for the rest of its life. Who We Are and What is Our Goal P.A.L.S. - A Full Service Animal-Help Organization Dedicated to the Well-Being of All Animals It is well known that adequate programs do not exist in the Philadelphia area to provide non-kill shelter for the large number of homeless animals. As a result, many homeless animals are put to sleep. P.A.L.S. is a fledgling, all-volunteer, non-profit organization, dedicated to solving this problem by rescuing stray, abandoned, and unwanted pets. Our pets receive veterinary care, including vaccinations and testing, and are spayed or neutered. Pets are sometimes kept in volunteer foster homes with all expenses paid by P.A.L.S. until they can be adopted into new homes. All potential adoptive families are screened and the prospective homes are visited. We try to match the personality of the pet to the characteristics of the adoptive family. If it seems an appropriate match, the pet is placed and the family signs an agreement to provide a good home. We ask the adoptive family for a small donation for making the placement. While this in no way reimburses P.A.L.S. for the total expense of the care we provide, it does help offset our costs and enables us to continue our efforts. Pets are visited after placement and representatives maintain contact to deal with any questions or problems that may arise. At present we are not able to assist all animals in need because of lack of space and funds. We, therefore, have two immediate goals:
