The Spirit That Moves Us PressThe Spirit That Moves Us Press was established in 1975. The managing editor is Marcela Bruno. We're a non-profit 501(3)(c) organization, to which tax-exempt donation may be made. Our purpose is to offer a place - both in published books and in public readings - for poetry and short stories, where the main criteria are quality, originality and work that communicates on a human level. In these times when accountants run most commercial publishing houses, rather than editors, we fill a gap created by the large publishers taking little risk on new writers or on more established writers who are doing something the publishers deem not commercially feasible. In 1983 we published the first collection in English in the U.S.A., of a poet not known outside his country and suppressed in his own country of Czechoslovakia. His name is Jaroslav Seifert, and the book, The Casting Of Bells. In 1984 he won the Nobel Prize for literature. Visit The Spirit That Moves Us Press home page. |
