The HIV/AIDS pandemic has stead fast divested and raved the entire world and Zambia has not been spared. To say Zambia too, has been affected by the heavy impact of the pandemic is grossly an understatement. Ironically Zambia is one of the first few Africa countries that started intensive Health Education about the disease as early as 1986 yet sadly this has not lessened the number of people affected by the pandemic nor has Health Education reduced the number of casualties.

As in most African countries HIV/AIDS has a heavy impact mainly on the young, productive, educated and working masses, concentrating mostly in the urban areas. It is the working class and professionals that have died and continue to die, and those that have survived the disease have fled the country for greener pastures. A double tragedy; HIV/AIDS and the HORRIBLE ECONOMY have hit Zambia, the two most worst brutal enemies known to humanity is what Zambia is fighting against, but sadly there is no chance of even a slight victory to both. Before the pandemic Zambia and indeed Africa as whole had no homeless orphans, in the African culture we believed in extended family we all looked after each other’s children. But the poor, poor economy has broken down the extended family. The surviving relatives of the deceased parents do want to take care of these orphans, but they have no jobs, no money and nothing to support them selves with and indeed the extra heavy responsibility of orphans. Consequently these orphans have ended up on the street.

It was almost taboo in Zambia to ever think of a child being homeless and living on the street, but now it is a heart breaking reality. Zambia has hundreds of street homeless children. The adults are not just dying of the pandemic, but depression too. With such an economy, people cannot afford Antivirals, they cannot afford any food, and the hospitals have no medicines and no nurses or doctors. These parents cannot afford to feed their families most adults are dying of depression, there’s NO HOPE, NO FUTURE and NO TOMORROW for our country Zambia.

Children too are dying of the disease, but worst of all it is the hunger, malnutrition, neglect and depression. First they watch HIV/AIDS ruthlessly devour their parents and soon enough they are out on the street with no hope. The psychological impact on these children is massive and if nothing is done, irreversible. The hopelessness and helplessness in their little faces haunts one.

The Pandemic and the horrendous economy is threatening to make Zambians an extinct people. One US $ is equal to K4, 500 [four thousand and five hundred KWACHA] Zambian money. For a person living in Zambia to have all the Antiviral medicines, per month, one needs a minimum of $800.00! Living in Zambia is a real nightmare. The nurses and doctors have left the country to rich countries like South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and England. Right now more than three quarters of the Zambian Registered nurses are in England. Who is looking after the sick people in Zambia? The nurses and doctors would like to stay in Zambia, but they have families to support, and leaving Zambia is the only way they can survive. The poor economy more than the pandemic it self has brought Zambia to its knees.

Incidentally, Zambia has one of the best education systems in the world, but there is no money to buy uniforms, books or to pay the school fees. Most of the children are no longer going to school. And those lucky enough to graduate from secondary school, in most instances have no money to pay for college and those that have graduated frown college cannot find jobs.

As a nation and a people we seriously need urgent, urgent help. This is an Emergency S.O.S to you. There seems to be no hope for Zambia, but if people like you reach deep down your hearts and find in yourself to help us there might just be enough time to save an entire country. It is on behalf of my people that I write to you, please help us save Zambia’s future, or soon we will be extinct. A thousand mile journey starts but with one step! On behalf of the Zambian people I have a project in mind and it is called ‘SAVE ZAMBIA FUTURE FOUNDATION’[SaZaFFo].

PROJECT PROPOSAL
  1. Opening an orphanage, in Luanshya, Zambia is the priority. Children need to have a home, some one to look after them. Depending on the response of the donors we will expand to other towns. We need funding desperately right now we have nothing just hope and prayer.
  2. A Website is under construction. Details of how to send donations to Zambia, and how people can adopt a child through sponsorship will be available on our Website. We will ask for donations from well-wishers like you in any from: Clothing, food, medicines and also ask people to come and invest in Zambia, we will have details of what line of businesses is available.
  3. The plan is to start with a few children depending on how much money will be donated to the foundation, we will also have boarders, and day residents in the orphanage. We plan to open our own school eventually.
  4. Women are what make a community, it is our plan to integrate these women by empowering them through trainings, literacy classes, teach them how to run small business and how to survive and take care of the family in the event that their husbands die.
  5. We will target teenage girls who are most vulnerable on the importance of saying NO to sex, and refrain from having older boyfriends {This is now a common trend, because of the poverty girls are turning to older men for money, and end up infected with the HIV virus} we need to help these girls find other channels of support other sex, to make a living.
  6. Staffing: we intend to work with the local catholic Diocese to provide us with nuns, and brothers to help us run the orphanage; it will be cheaper on salaries, and will safe guard against pilfering.
  7. Volunteers; we plan on working with the ‘American Peace corps’ and other volunteer services to provide us with extra help.
  8. Finally and most important we are looking for a long-term solution both to the Pandemic disease and also to the poverty and poor economy.
We are strongly encouraging investors to come and invest in Zambia. Zambia is very rich in natural resources. Our biggest industry and once upon the backbone of Zambia’s Economy is the copper mine industry. But sadly as it is now, the Copper mine industry is a virtual stand still, due to poor decisions made by the ruling government. But we believe with good investors the copper mining industry will be back on its feet. The Copper industry was the biggest employer in Zambia until a few years ago when the new government virtually stripped it, of all the money bringing the gigantic industry to a halt and unemployment for thousands of people.

Other great investments include Emeralds, and other precious minerals, Agriculture, factories, Tourism, we have great game parks, lakes, beautiful ‘get aways’, and one of the 7th wonders of the world, the mighty Victoria Falls is in Zambia! We have sports, a great wealth of other talent, and lots and lots of land. Zambia is almost a virgin land, ready to be discovered. We need you to save our people and our country, and investing in our country is throwing us a permanent lifeline that we will sustain us for a long, long time.

This organization has informed us they are qualified to receive tax deductible contributions.
