Save Zambia's Future FoundationThe HIV/AIDS pandemic has stead fast divested and raved the entire world and Zambia has not been spared. To say Zambia too, has been affected by the heavy impact of the pandemic is grossly an understatement. Ironically Zambia is one of the first few Africa countries that started intensive Health Education about the disease as early as 1986 yet sadly this has not lessened the number of people affected by the pandemic nor has Health Education reduced the number of casualties. As in most African countries HIV/AIDS has a heavy impact mainly on the young, productive, educated and working masses, concentrating mostly in the urban areas. It is the working class and professionals that have died and continue to die, and those that have survived the disease have fled the country for greener pastures. A double tragedy; HIV/AIDS and the HORRIBLE ECONOMY have hit Zambia, the two most worst brutal enemies known to humanity is what Zambia is fighting against, but sadly there is no chance of even a slight victory to both. Before the pandemic Zambia and indeed Africa as whole had no homeless orphans, in the African culture we believed in extended family we all looked after each other’s children. But the poor, poor economy has broken down the extended family. The surviving relatives of the deceased parents do want to take care of these orphans, but they have no jobs, no money and nothing to support them selves with and indeed the extra heavy responsibility of orphans. Consequently these orphans have ended up on the street. It was almost taboo in Zambia to ever think of a child being homeless and living on the street, but now it is a heart breaking reality. Zambia has hundreds of street homeless children. The adults are not just dying of the pandemic, but depression too. With such an economy, people cannot afford Antivirals, they cannot afford any food, and the hospitals have no medicines and no nurses or doctors. These parents cannot afford to feed their families most adults are dying of depression, there’s NO HOPE, NO FUTURE and NO TOMORROW for our country Zambia. Children too are dying of the disease, but worst of all it is the hunger, malnutrition, neglect and depression. First they watch HIV/AIDS ruthlessly devour their parents and soon enough they are out on the street with no hope. The psychological impact on these children is massive and if nothing is done, irreversible. The hopelessness and helplessness in their little faces haunts one. The Pandemic and the horrendous economy is threatening to make Zambians an extinct people. One US $ is equal to K4, 500 [four thousand and five hundred KWACHA] Zambian money. For a person living in Zambia to have all the Antiviral medicines, per month, one needs a minimum of $800.00! Living in Zambia is a real nightmare. The nurses and doctors have left the country to rich countries like South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and England. Right now more than three quarters of the Zambian Registered nurses are in England. Who is looking after the sick people in Zambia? The nurses and doctors would like to stay in Zambia, but they have families to support, and leaving Zambia is the only way they can survive. The poor economy more than the pandemic it self has brought Zambia to its knees. Incidentally, Zambia has one of the best education systems in the world, but there is no money to buy uniforms, books or to pay the school fees. Most of the children are no longer going to school. And those lucky enough to graduate from secondary school, in most instances have no money to pay for college and those that have graduated frown college cannot find jobs. As a nation and a people we seriously need urgent, urgent help. This is an Emergency S.O.S to you. There seems to be no hope for Zambia, but if people like you reach deep down your hearts and find in yourself to help us there might just be enough time to save an entire country. It is on behalf of my people that I write to you, please help us save Zambia’s future, or soon we will be extinct. A thousand mile journey starts but with one step! On behalf of the Zambian people I have a project in mind and it is called ‘SAVE ZAMBIA FUTURE FOUNDATION’[SaZaFFo]. PROJECT PROPOSAL
