Project Liberty Peer Support InitiativeWe provide support and outreach to consumers and non-consumers of mental health services and communities affected by the September 11th World Trade Center tragedy. Integrating the core values of self-help and recovery, we assist our peers and communities in creating and taking advantage of new opportunities for growth, stability and wellness. The Howie T. Harp Advocacy Center's Project Liberty Peer Support Initiative is sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) and The Center For Mental Health and The New York City Department of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Alcoholism Services. We provide face-to-face crisis counseling to past and present consumers of mental health services that helps consumers understand issues of trauma, assess current needs and obtain additional services through referrals to other agencies. Support groups exist throughout the metropolitan area where mental health consumers focus on issues of wellness and develop coping strategies for these stressful times. Call our toll-free peer support line at 866--234-PEER. You will be connected to a trained peer who can help make sense of what is happening around you.
