National Organization For Empowering Caregivers NOFEC
The mission of the National Organization For Empowering Caregivers is to provide assistance, education, support, and referrals for informal family caregivers, as well as to promote public awareness about the realities of caregiving.
NOFEC, is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization.
Caring for an ailing loved one is often one of the most emotional and demanding experiences an individual may face in their lifetime. This experience is further complicated for those who are unable to afford professional assistance or nursing home care. Seventy-six percent of the estimated 54 million caregivers nationwide say isolation is their #1 source of stress.
NOFEC began in the late 1990’s as a result of the caregiving experiences of its founder, Gail Mitchell, which led to her desire to assist others on their caregiving journeys. She began hosting discussions for caregivers in chat rooms. She founded the “Empowering Caregivers” Website, a community for family caregivers, fostering hope and providing guidance.
We are committed to encouraging collaboration with other caregiving organizations in order to create a user-friendly clearinghouse of existing programs dedicated to helping family caregivers.
