In Arms Reach, Inc., Parents behind Bars: Children in CrisisIN ARMS REACH, INC., Parents in Prison, Children in Crisis, is a non profit 501(c)3 community based art, music, counseling and academic mentoring program, located at City College, for the City University of New York (CUNY) in partnership with the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, which strengthens family ties by arranging for youth to visit their parents in prison. Our goal is to empower young people, often traumatized and stigmatized by parental incarceration, to lead more productive, crime free lives and encourage stronger supportive bonds between generations. >B>IN ARMS REACH:
Participants must be New York City residents between the ages of 7 and 18 with a parent who is currently or has previously served a prison sentence. IN ARMS REACH recruits through after-school programs, group homes; foster care agencies, NYS and federal prisons, community-based youth and social service organizations.
