Harlem RBI, Inc.Harlem RBI, a 501(c)3 organization, is a unique, year-round sports, educational, and enrichment program located in East Harlem, New York. Harlem RBI uses baseball and softball and the power of teams to provide inner city youth with opportunities to play, to learn and to grow, inspiring them to recognize their potential and realize their dreams. Harlem RBI prides itself on being a community-based organization that is much more than a place to play baseball. A staff of five full-time professionals, older Harlem RBI participants and a diverse corps of over 150 volunteers implement year-round programs for more than 350 youth. In addition to baseball and softball programs for participants ages seven to eighteen, Harlem RBI offers a range of year-round, developmentally appropriate activities including an after-school program, internship opportunities, a counseling and referral service, The REAL (Reading and Enrichment Academy of Learning) Kids summer program and Team Enrichment, group-based activities for junior high school participants. Each of these programs allows Harlem RBI to maintain a continued, consistent presence in each young person's life. One of New York City's most successful classrooms doesn't have a chalkboard. It has a couple of pitcher's mounds, a batting cage, and uses bats and balls to engage hundreds of inner city youth, ages seven to eighteen, in year-round sports, education and enrichment programs. For over a decade, a passionate community of local residents, staff, volunteers and supporters have worked together to bring the "Field of Dreams" - a city long block in East Harlem - to life for the young people of the community as they realize their potential as athletes, students and productive citizens.
