BTC Displaced Homemaker ProgramWe service Displaced Homemakers.... A Displaced Homemaker is an individual who: - Has not worked in the labor force for a substantial number of years but, during that time, has worked in the home providing unpaid services for family members; and - Has depended on public assistance or on income of another family member, but is no longer supported that way; or - Is receiving public assistance because of dependent children in the home, especially if that assistance will be ending; and - Is unemployed or underemployed and is having difficulty getting a job or moving ahead. Left on their own, without job-ready skills, displaced homemakers often face instant poverty. They seldom receive medical, retirement, or unemployment benefits because they have not been paid for their services. They often are subjected to job discrimination due to their age, sex and lack of recent paid experience. Our program helps people back on the road to economic independence by providing the counseling, training, placement, and support services they need to obtain regular employment. |
