AWAN - Animal Welfare Adoption NetworkDear Friend of AWAN, Hello. My name is Ann Martin. I'm an author of children's books, including the Baby-sitters Club series. Today, though, I'm writing to you as a fan of AWAN, the Woodstock area's Animal Welfare and Adoption Network. I've been associated with AWAN since 1996, first as a supporter, and later by fostering homeless cats and kittens. I am pleased to be part of this forward thinking organization. AWAN rescues and finds homes for animals in great need, shines in promoting community awareness of spay/neuter programs, and encourages compassionate, responsible treatment of companion animals. This year has been exciting for AWAN. In September of 2001, PETsMART, a national company, opened a store on Rt. # 9 in Kingston, New York. Rather than selling dogs and cats, PETsMART sets up in-store adoption centers for rescued animals. AWAN gratefully accepted the offer of that space. In the year prior to entering PETsMART, AWAN found homes for some 200 cats and dogs. Since the partnership began, nearly 900 successful adoptions have been made. And 2003 promises to be even more exciting. AWAN's success doesn't come without expenses, however, in particular vet bills. Would you be willing to make a donation to AWAN to help continue their work? On behalf of Domino, Mary, Aspen, Henry, Figaro, and all the other cats and dogs who found homes this year THANK YOU!! Ann Martin Hi! I'm Ruth Ringel, PR Chair for AWAN. Many thanks to Ann Martin and the rest of AWAN's volunteer family who propel our group to make a dramatic difference in the lives of so many neglected, needy animals. Let me mention just a few generous, courageous people who make our work the success it is. Our angel, Linda Takacs', hard work and tireless gentle care of AWAN cats at PETsMART accounts for the impressive number of loving adoptions we've done in the last 14 months. Ann Tucker and Chris Neal have been responsible for courageous rescues and for our enhanced capacity to save and place more dogs and cats. Ann Gregory is our amazing patron saint of stray kittens. The list is far too long to finish here! I'm Helen Mendoza, an AWAN veteran. As I review the individual dogs and cats we have rescued and the loving folks who have opened their homes to them, I feel my heart bursting with joy and pride. None of this could have happened without the support of friends like you. Thanks ! Susan Roth here. As founder and past director of AWAN I am so pleased and proud of the giant steps it has taken since its conception in 1987. There are many passionate hearts on board. This translates into Rescue, Rehabilitation, and then Adoption. The number of domestic animals we have saved is staggering. So is the cost of housing, vetting, and feeding). Please donate generously so we can repeat the process again and again. Happiness and Peace and Joy of the Season to all! AWAN wishes you, your families, and the beautiful animals who brighten your lives happiness and good health now and in all the years ahead. Visit the AWAN home page. |
