BRYCC House aka Brick House Community Center

1101 South Second St.
Louisville, KY 40203

Phone # (502) 589-4978

email - radioelectric@yahoo.com

The BRYCC House is a stand-alone, independent youth center, and the only center in Louisville that is run by youth, for youth. We believe that our unique structure, non-hierarchical approach, and focus on youth culture through artistic expression and do-it-yourself projects will set us apart from other youth centers in the region. In particular, our plan to host regular concerts by youth musicians of diverse genres and feature youth art exhibits, plays, and poetry readings will be a unique and powerful attraction, not just for neighborhood youth, but for youth and adults alike in the entire Louisville region.

The mission of BRYCC House Inc. is to promote creative expression, independent learning, community awareness and empowerment among Louisville youth.

The BRYCC House was founded with the philosophy that youth are intelligent and capable agents of their own lives who can learn by doing. It is the only youth center in the region governed primarily by the youth (defined as 13-24) who use its facilities. The Center offers cultural, arts, and educational programs and facilities during afternoons, evenings, and weekends, with plans to expand access to the daytime.

Every active volunteer for the Center can vote in programming and general administrative issues in the democratically-run Collective. We urge youth to get involved in every aspect of the day-to-day operation of the center, from supervising the facilities to planning events. Likewise, the Board of Directors is at least 50% youth at all times.

At this time, we offer a computer lab, a darkroom, meeting rooms, a kitchen, an art studio, a small library, and other space for young people to organize and be creative. We have plans to expand our space to include a performance area, a recording studio, and a low power FM station run by youth.

Update as of September 25, 2006

The Brick House Community Center is still BRYCC and the community that established the DIY vision of self sustainable skills sharing through creativity and life long learning techniques. We have relocated to a more centrally located site and have invested in the purchase of a building as a part of working with the under served people in the local community.

Our current webpage is under reconstruction and will be refreshed soon... for now we are primarily focused on DIY Building Renovation and production of fine art and skilled craftspersonship projects including a Freewheel Bike Project which teaches folks bike maintenance and repair in exchange for volunteer labor and free bike swaps. We are currently completing the development of our LPFM community radio project as well as considering partnerships with other local non-profits committed to cooperative learning and making resources more available for artistic and expressive projects by individuals and collective efforts.

This organization has informed us they are qualified under their local country tax law to receive tax deductible contributions.

Send BRYCC House an email.
