Meagans Foundation For Persons Living With Severe Head Injury
The Meagans Foundation, Inc. is named for my daughter Meagan who suffered a severe brain injury on June 9th, 2002. We are now Incorporated in the State of Kansas and are able to accept Tax Deductible contributions in Kansas only. We are a 501c3 public charity dedicated to improving the lives of persons living with severe brain injury. We have applied for Federal Tax Exemption from the I.R.S. and status is pending. We have also created the Adams Foundation, Inc. which is a 501c3 public charity created to raise suicide awareness and suicide prevention. The Foundation is named after my son Adam, who committed suicide On May 24th of 2002. We will be offering two kinds of support: cash grants to Kansas survivors and their families and an online support group for survivors and care givers. Meagans Foundation plans to create a Grant program to provide funds for persons living with severe brain injury in Kansas that are experiencing financial crisis up to $5000. Additionally, an online support group will be created to provide a means for socialization as well as support and information exchange. Meagans Foundation requires financing for a facility, advertising, hiring personnel, personnel training and funding for the grant program pursuant to its planned start-up.We are raising some money through an Ebay store started to liquidate personal items and donated items to raise money for the Foundations (Adams and Meagans Foundations). Meagans Foundation, Inc is currently working with Kansas Social Rehabilitation Services and Independent Living Resource Center for referral, resourcing and support. We are currently in the process of applying for grant monies, private sector funding as well as public funding to maintain our status as a public charitable foundation. The founder of Meagans Foundation is Kat Chrisman who is currently the PCA (personal care attendant) for her daughter Meagan Spackman. Meagan is 22 years old and her 2 year anniversary of her traumatic brain injury was June, 9th 2004. Meagan suffered her brain injury from a near fatal car accident. Kat, Meagan and Chris Spackman (son and brother respectively) live in Wichita and found little help with the transition period from the hospital to home regarding finances. Meagan had many physical injuries as well as the brain injury and spent 7 months in three different hospitals. Medicaid did cover many therapies, but other much needed therapies that would have rehabilitated Meagan even further/better were not allowed under Medicaid. Special circumstances did not allow Public assistance, but there was still a great need for financial assistance for day to day needs, therapies etc. It has been an uphill fight and a struggle to care for Meagan at home financially, emotionally and physically without the needed funds or support. Meagans Foundation is starting from scratch - literally. We have no funds and request your support.
