Federation of Associations for Community Empowerment - FACEFACE (Federation of Associations for Community Empowerment) is basically a resource center formed towards capacitating local grass root community groups including grass root NGOs. Dr. P. V. Ravichandiran, a social activist, had formed the organization in 2002. Between 1995 January to 1997 December he was a Fellow of CRY (Child Relief and You), Chennai. He had a chance to evolve and experiment with community based rehabilitation of persons with disabilities with the valuable guidance from Ms. Aloka Guka, Director of spastic society of Tamilnadu, Chennai at the time. With a wide range of experiences, he was a trainer, resource person, consultant, project monitor, etc. in various development projects of various grass root NGOs in Tamilnadu state). The very purpose of the organization is to address the needs of depressed communities by capacitating community groups including grass root NGOsstriving towards self reliance. In earlier stages, FACE had acted through its member organizations; had undertaken joint action programs in promoting ecological farming, advocacy interventions for promoting child centred education, and conducted capacity building programs to NGO leaders, NGO staff, men & women Youth club leaders. FACE was later intensively involved in gender sensitization campaigns with various critical groups. The General Secretary and 3 other member NGO leaders and 1 member NGO staff are resource persons in gender sensitization program of Government of India for the police personnel in the state. Independent Commission for People’s Right and Development (ICPRD) New Delhi, NEG, Tamilnadu, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Govt.of India, Thanjavur are some the associates before tsunami. Oxfam GB in India is our main funding partner in our tsunami relief Interventions. Save the Children, Kinderhilfswerk, India, Arokasena are our other partners. Saltpan labourers, marginal salt producers, inland backwater fishermen, marginal farmers are our main target group. Special focal points are women and children among the identified target community.
