Star Social & Human Welfare Organization
Star Social Human Welfare Organization is a public, voluntary, non-profit and non-governmental organization established in the year 1992 by Dr. S. M. Martin, a wwell knownand dedicated public figure of Kumbakonam. It has been functioning from Kumbakonam as its center place, in Tanjore District. The name has set inspiration and motivation in the minds of numerous women who were in search for improvement and empowerment in their life. This organization’s main objective is to advocate women empowerment and offering relevant services. It spreads its activities in Social, Economical, Environmental, and Institutional spheres of life of women for their empowerment and upliftment.
Star Social Human Welfare Organization, with its dedicated, caring, empathetic and experienced team spreads its wings in a fast and consistent manner with its several novel programs like short term industrial trainings for the women and young people to facilitate their empowerment in a substantive way, blood donating camps, awareness of primary education, care for the drop outs, welfare of the handicapped persons and senior citizens. It has also conducted number of programs in various Schools and colleges to inculcate students about Religious Harmony and National Integration.
Star Social Human Welfare Organization has formed more than 300 SHG Groups in more than hundred villages(above 3000 members) in and around Kumbakonam in order to create group feeling among women, and to enhance the confidence and capabilities of women. This organization develops collective ddecision makingamong women and also encourages the habit of saving among women. The SHGs are not only resorting but are also taking small loans out of the corpus available with the group. An amount of Rs. 6 crores is mobilized as corpus among these groups. Given the fact that many women who aspire to look forward to become economically independent in rural villages Star Social Human Welfare organization has identified about hundred villages to nurture the skills and aspirations of women both skilled and ssemi skilled This organization identifies such ignited minds provided training on entrepreneurial skills of their choice and liking, enables them to keep their book of accounts and organized for funds too. The wide range of activities under this category ranges from tailoring, finished embroidery items, and many other specific activities as found suitable in the respective environment of the locality from where these rural women's hail from. Star human welfare organization had enabled many women to lead the glorious lamp of self sustainable business houses thereby setting example to others in the area and as well as neighborhood areas.
Star Social Human Welfare Organization for the past 15 years with its continuous effectiveness in drawing upon resources has shown remarkable development and constructive activities with proven track records and heartfelt appreciation from the beneficiaries and appreciated including our beloved past President Sri. Abdhul Kalam, the past and present Chief ministers of Tamilnadu and by Central Government Cabinet Ministers like the social welfare and youth affairs minister.

Star Social Human Welfare Organization acted as a breeze for the needy, affected and persons who needed help and Tsunami in emergencies.- During the Earthquake tragedy of Gujarath it contributed 2.25 lakhs rupees through the CM of Tamillnadu.
- During Tsunami, materials worth of 5 Lakhs had been sent to the villages in Nagapatinam District
- 90 thousand rupees of cash had been donated to karkil relief fund. SUPPORTING OLDER PEOPLE: Star Human Welfare Organization recognizes and treats older persons not as a liability, but as an individual worthy of respect and legitimate place in society and helps them in many accords.

Star Human Welfare Organization renders preventive health services and curative medical services to the poor in general and the aged, handicapped disabled persons, destitute women victims and children in particular - SERVICES FOR MENTALLY RETARDED CHILDREN:
Star Human Welfare Organization provides comprehensive services for the mentally handicapped. This develops their skills and talents to the maximum possible extend, towards their sself dependence This organization supports People with disabilities who constantly miss out on the essential aids and equipment much needed to sustain a decent standard of living.

Aids and appliances are being provided to physically challenged persons. Aids and appliances like tricycles, blind sticks, crutches, hearing aids and wheelchairs are being provided free of cost to physically challenged persons. - RAIN WATER HARVESTING:
To provide adequate knowledge about conservation of environmental and ecological resources this organization demonstrated how to preserve rainwater. - SERVICES TO EDUCATION:
Star Social Human Welfare Organization has started Educational institutions to promote the cause of education and to develop the personality of the students in all its aspects—physical, mental and moral and thereby making them useful members of society. - STAR ENGLISH SCHOOL:
This institution provides all children with a joyful and creative school atmosphere that incorporates education and skills relevant to a meaningful and dignified existence and equips children with the knowledge necessary to become active participants and positive contributors to their communities and thus creates a society free of child labour, abuse, destitution, exploitation and abandonment. Our Star English School had won the admiration of our past beloved President Thiru.Abdulkalam. - EMPOWERING WOMEN THROUGH IT EDUCATION:
As Star Social Human Welfare Organization knows very well that “Vision without action is merely a dream, but vision and action together can change the world”, this has started an I TECH seld sufficienten in Kumbakonam. This institution focuses on empowering and making economically deprived women more self-sufficient by providing computer training to many economically challenged women. The curriculum is focused on providing employable skills through Computer as well as English Language education for urban poor women and youth from underprivileged sections of the society.
The institute is headed by qualified, trained and experienced principal and assisted by the faculty members who are trained in the respective fields for providing vocational training. Further the institute has been provided with well equipped workshops for developing the requisite skills in the trainees besides computer training and course lectures, interactive sessions on soft skills and industry knowledge by practicing professionals will be imparted. All students would be undergoing training to equip them with practical experience to connect theory to practice. As this institution is well aware of the major problem of the girls’ limited knowledge of English, which proves to be a deterrent at the time of their placements, this institution conducts spoken English classes also. Knowledge about Basic computers and Accounting package, Travel Management, Stenography, Tailoring courses, beautician courses, teamwork and leadership, personality development are taught here. The main objective of this institution is its guidance and counseling to get career opportunities and also assures placement to the trainees. Shri. Mani Shankar Aiyar, Union Minister of Panchayati Raj, Youth Affairs & Sports, and Govt. of India has opened this institution and praised its efforts.
