Rural Women and Children Development (RWCD)
RWCD is a registered society working for the empowerment of women and children in Tirunelveli Dist, Tamil Nadu, South India Since 1986. Out main target people are Dalit women working in beedi rolling industries and as agricultural coolies. Our target population covers more than 40 thousands. Our focus area has been on organizing the women under a grass root level structure called SHG. In this regard we have already organized 50 SHG in 32 villages. Still we have a tuff task of organizing the remaining women in view of the cast based political mobilization of the poor women.
But we are working for the secular mobilization of the poor. It is unfortunate that caste based division of the people, particularly women, has been leading to denial of the right to life and livelihood of the poor people.
Another major impediment to our goal is to the empowerment of the women is the advent of globalization which has been promoting a consumerist culture.
In this context we are working for the promotion of child rights, women rights, health rights, HIV/AIDs - care/support, environmental health, promoting sustainable agriculture, promoting vocational training courses on employment opportunities and in the last effort we are rehabilitating the disabled and deserted people in the community.
