Rural Institute of Medical Sciences
RURAL INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES, (RIMS), a Government of Bihar (India) Registered Non Profit Organization (NGO), accredited to UN ICPD & FWCW and in Roster Consultative Status with the ECOSOC, is actively associated with The Population Institute, Washington, USA; having its office and working place at TAJPUR, District - Samastipur (Bihar)-848130 a most thickly populated and the poorest region. The organization is composed of voluntary members and the staff has its headquarters in Tajpur, Dist: Samastipur (Bihar) India. RIMS is a non-profit, non-party political and non-sectarian organization, registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI, 1860.
RIMS is well recognized by the local residents due to its reputation and working with the rural poor since last 21 years with an idea "One can not Motivate anybody except make an Environment for Self Motivation".
To carryout the policy of Government of India to slow population growth by providing information and access to quality family planning, reproductive health services including counseling to delay early marriage & child bearing, immunization, primary education and environmental care program, RIMS has come to turn rhetoric into action. By associating local leaders and persons from all section of the society & suggestions received from local volunteers, RIMS is engaged in social, cultural, educational and environmental upgrading activities at grass root level and give free services. Infant, child, pregnant mother health care and time bound immunization service received a wide range support and applause. The Government of Bihar has strongly recommended the proposal of RIMS to the Government of India for construction of 200-bedded women & children hospital on the proposed site received as public donation.
RIMS, by motivation and pursuing a two child family norm, provide access to basic social service like health care, pre and postnatal care, time bound immunization, child education and discuss individually about promoting their income generating activities. We believe that if any section of the society - women, men, children, caste or class is denied dignity and respect, these must be restored to them and enjoyed by them, otherwise they will not listen to your advice and will revolt.
In RIMS frequently organized young couple and family meet or seminar, our volunteers, in local language, tries to describe in details about the humane basic physiology and body demand; the habit of developing personal hygiene; available low cost healthy diet and its effect and also how their surroundings can be made healthy. This develops greater confidence in taking decisions about when to marry, when to have their first and subsequent child, spacing and importance of safe delivery or abortion.
