Brief History:
RICE was registered as a public charitable organization in the year 1985 under Tamilnadu society registration act of 1975. The basic aim was to improve the conditions of the rural poor especially women and children in the village of its working area. RICE also under took the task of enable the rural oppressed masses, which were illiterate and under developed, to prepare them to be aware of their situation and motivate them untidily struggle to bring about a social transformation. In the initial stage (ie up to 1919) 10 villages were adopted establishing conduct with people. But as time progressed, seeing the activities of RICE, the confidence in the people increased which led to their full cooperator. Now RICE is conduct with 30 villages over population of forty thousand.
The < B>RICE programmes are discussed in the monthly meetings of the executive body which consists of seven members. The general body is conveyed once in a year to get the approval of the programmes under taken by RICE. The Election of office bearers will be once in three year time.
The office will be functioning from morning 10 am to 5 Pm every day except Sunday.

- Savings and Credits for self-help groups
- Training on Tailoring and Computer Education
- Poultry Farming
- Community health education and medical care
- Rehabilitation of the handicapped
- Legal consultancy and training for the deprived
- Sustainable Agriculture and ecology
Aim:
To improve the conditions of the rural poor especially women and children in the villages of its working area.
Objectives of RICE:
- Engage in activities aimed at improving the living conditions and general welfare of the poor, particularly farmers, inland fisherman and unorganized labourers as well as poor and indigent persons of whatever occupation irrespective of their caste and religion.
- Organize women folk in view of socio cultural and economic liberation and creative activity.
- Promote local leadership, belongingness, peoples participating and empowerment.
- Promote and foster cultural activities aimed at raising the consciousness of the people regarding their socio economic and cultural deviation.
- Organise non-formal education programme for village children in collaboration with state and central governments.
- Encourage pre-primary education for village children aged between three and five years.
- Enable the disabled people to acquire skills and become self employed.
- Spread appropriate technology among the people in agriculture, inland fisheries and palmyrah tappers.
- Encourage people to organize co-operative enterprises.
- Guide people regarding the accessibility of rural credit available with formal and informal financial institutions.
- To enable poor villagers to get a shelter of their own.
- Cater to the health need of the people joined with health departments.
- Address health issue and promote environment awareness and ecology.
Special Request for Tsunami Relief
The most affected area near our center is Kutapuli and Thisayanvilai. All the people from these villages were shifted to near by village called Vadakkankulam. There are more than 3000 people - women, children and men.
We are now collecting donations from local people and giveing them food, cloths and medicines. We have made temprory shellters for these people in the local schools and churches. It is a very pitable contition. They can't go back to their houses. Houses are damaged and many relatives of these people died.
In this sitiuation I request your good hearts to help these people in whatever way you can and to get the help of your relatives or colleges to support these people in this critical sitiuation. This is our sample survey that was done by our volunteers. Now we are in need of emergency items for the support of the Tsunami affected families. Initially kindly support for the 150 families in Kootapuli Village.
