Relief Action NetDear friends. We request support for the victims of the Tsunami in the region of Tamilnadu, India. Below more details about the situation and our request. Tsunami affected the Nagapattinam and 30 other hamlets of east coast areas of Tamil Nadu on 26th December, 2004 at 9.15a.m. Our ISSI team, local youth and groups started the rescue activities in the affected areas on 27th Dec., 2004. Up to 30th Dec, 2004 no rescue activities were started by the local government. Thousands of dead bodies were not removed and buried/burned. So, our team, totally 15 members, became involved in the rescue operation and buried/burned more than 500 bodies from 27th Dec, 2004. The death rate is above 5000 in the area.. We have collected more information and observed the actual situation of the Tsunami tragedy during our rescue services in the sea shore villages. And also, we discussed with the affected youth and community leaders and observed the situation in the camps where the affected people are accommodated in the Nagapattinam area. We understood the situation and their immediate and long term needs. It will take another two weeks for the area to begin to return to a more normal situation. Then only, we can get correct figures and data. And also, we are expecting government data about the situation.
