Milton Charitable Foundation for the Visually Handicapped
Milton Charitable Foundation for The Visually Handicapped was founded on 21st march 2004 by some blind college students. It was registered under Indian Society Registration Act XXI of 1860 as a state label non-profit voluntary organization on 18th September 2008. It is managed by an autonomous statutory body consisting of 12 members. Since its Beginning it has been basically emphasizing on the all round development of visually impaired persons of Orissa . Its prime objective is to take initiative for education ,Socio-economic Rehabilitation ,Aid Advocacy and Empowerment of the blind. Visually impaired society is very marginalized and stigmatized in Orissa . Even the basic problem like Education , adequate Training Provision and permanent rehabilitation through employment or self employment have not been fulfill yet . At first this organization concentrated on the development of the educational sector. Due to unavailability of Braille Material from high school onwards the blind students were unable to compete with general students . On account of enormous cost of Braille press and the ignorance of the State Government, the blind people in the state are facing number of problems during their study period. To tackle such major challenge this organization has setup a Digital Talking Book Center for the first time in Orissa . In this studio the recorded CDs and Audio Cassettes on study curriculum and general topics are available . Hundreds of blind students of schools and colleges from all the parts of the state are depending on this projects .
Along with this projects this institution has also set up a Braille library collecting precious book from different national and international libraries . To encourage the poor and the meritorious students for their higher studies , this organization is providing educational scholarships annually .
To impart technical training to the blind persons , this organization as recently started Basic Computer and Type writing course. Further it will launch other job oriented programs . There is no such training facilities provided by Government and private organizations in orissa .
Through its resource center ,this organization provides various up to date information about Jobs, Scholarship , Loans , Government rules and regulations, Training facilities etc to blind persons .
For the development of culture and sports , this organization time to time organizes different state level sports events and cultural programs for the blind persons . It has given stress on innovative program for the visually challenge persons . This organizations makes its best effort to keep good relation with state Government ,District Administration and the local people to implement its objectives through various meetings and seminars . Through all its activities around 5 lakhs blind persons are being benefited from all parts of Orissa.
