The Trust is located in Wadakanchery, a small town in the District of Trichur, Kerala state, India. The Trust’s activities are now centered in the District of Trichur with a population of 3 million. The Trust is dedicated to improving people’s lives by sharing advances in health and learning. It’s aim is to provide help to the less fortunate by leveraging the advances in medical science combined with improved nutrition and expanded access to health care which would achieve longer, healthier lives. The Trust has planned several projects expected to come in to fruition by 2005. i. Children’s Vaccine Program: The goal is to improve access to life saving vaccines to all children thus preventing deadly diseases among poor children. The children’s vaccine program of Govt. Agencies covers only Polio, BCG, DPT and Measles. The need for other essential children’s vaccine such as Hepatitis ‘B’, MMR, HIB and Chicken Pox are left almost untouched. The Trust aims to put in place a children’s vaccine delivery infra structure to expand access to essential vaccines at affordable cost. ii. Health Care: A stubborn and troubling gap exists between the health status of the rich and the poor and the gap is widening. The health Care Program of the Trust is focused on the most vulnerable population of children, the elderly, expectant mothers, women, the handicapped and spastics, who shoulder an increasing share of disease burden. The Trust organizes free/subsidized medical treatment where such severe needs exist; special care is devoted in the treatment of Cancer and Reproductive health problems. iii. Providing Nutritious Food: There is nutritional insecurity due to inadequate purchasing power of people. The Trust’s target areas in this program are children, the aged, expectant mothers and women. iv. Learning: The Trust extends opportunities for learning by providing scholarships to academically talented students with severe financial needs with emphasis on the newly emerging technologies. v. Rehabilitation of the Handicapped, retarded and spastics: There are several ‘Homes’ for the physically handicapped, retarded, old age persons and spastics run by non-governmental agencies in the district. Facilities to rehabilitate the inmates of these ‘Homes’ are woefully inadequate. The Trust plans to put in place model infrastructure facilities selectively in such ‘Homes’ as a trend setter to provide meaningful and fruitful lives to the inmates, and face a competitive world outside: .....a) To help the orphanages (Around 2000 inmates) .....b) To construct and maintain an Old Age ‘Home’ .....c) To set up electronic commerce and training for the poor. vi. Water: Water is life. Every human being now and in future should have clean water for drinking and sanitation. Trust’s activities involve educating the population on the use and management of water resources, availability of water and the water gap. The trust interacts with governmental and non-governmental agencies in varied areas as over consumptions of water, waste, pollution, watershed degradation, poorly conceived and operated infrastructure projects and inequality. There are at present 20000 families in the district of Trichur who face acute water scarcity. The Trust plans to step in such areas and provide community bore wells and in severe conditions reach water to these families through water carriers. vii. Funding Needs: One of the biggest challenges we now face is raising the necessary funds to finish the job on hand. Total funding requirement for the projects now envisaged by the Trust is Indian Rs. 80 million (US $ 2 million). Detailed proposals on the projects shall be sent to you on receipt of favorable intimation from you. A hunger free, healthy society is within reach if we all pull together. With your funding assistance, the Trust’s imitative in the vital areas of human development can be brought to a successful completion. |
