Animators for Rural Multipurpose Development Society - ARMDS
India, a subcontinent, a vast land, is a thickly populated country with a long history. There is perennial demarcation between the "haves" and "have-nots". The destiny of the "have-nots" is always been determined by the "haves" and they continue to shed tears perennially for their helpless conditions. Education, one of the fundamental rights of every child, is denied mercilessly in this soil. The children are deprived of their childhood. The women continue to face social oppression. The disabled are ridiculed even today for their physique. The social down castes are not respected and they are ill-treated extensively. The disadvantaged sections of the society had no other go, except to die to their own pitiable circumstances.
It is under these circumstances, the like minded vibrant youth who have had the opportunity of internalizing the deprivation of the marginalized and the other disadvantaged groups came together under the banner "Youth Development Association" in 1988. These vibrant youth took up most backward villages in Mugaiyur Block and started helping out the school going children by way of imparting supplementary education and non-formal education to the school drop outs and other disadvantaged groups. Since then, this group of youth initiated to reform the life style of these target groups in order to improve them through various developmental programmes.
As the years rolled on, the quantum of works multiplied and its members felt the growing need to register the society as Animators for Rural Multipurpose Development Society (ARMDS) in 1992 under Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act in 1990. Since 1992, the works of ARMDS amidst these "have-nots", marginalized and the disadvantaged groups have been very progressive. ARMDS is in fact gifted to have a wonderful set of Board Members, Professionals, Staff, Local Well Wishers and the supporters who think of the welfare of the people, leave no stone unturned to make a difference.
Vision
To create a conscientious rural society which takes care of the needy and the deprived sections of the society by its active participation in the social development process by asserting their rights and lead a harmonious and peaceful life.
Mission Statement
Empower the marginalized and the disadvantaged sections of the society through non-formal, vocational and continuing education in order to help them lead a goal-directed dignified human life.
Principal Objective
The principal objective of ARMDS is to organize the deprived and disadvantaged village communities and groups in order to sensitize them on the root cause of their problems, enable them to become knowledgeable, develop appropriate skills and attitudes with a view to improving their standard of living.
Target Area / People
ARMDS focuses on 45 most backward village Panchayats in and around Irudayapuram of Mugaiyur Block and 20 most backward village Panchayats in Rishivanthiyam Block, and 45 village Panchayats in Kandamangalam Block of Villupuram District,
Tamil Nadu state in India. ARMDS reaches out all sections of the society without any differences of caste and religion. ARMDS covers the Dalit Women, Persons with Disabilities, Parents of Persons with Disabilities, Children in especially in Difficult Circumstances, School Dropouts, Adolescents, Youth, Widows and Small & Marginal Farmers.
