Universidad Popular a.k.a. Latin Center
Universidad Popular has been pursuing community empowerment by means of different of emancipatory education since its inception in the early 1970s. It was conceptualized as a learning place where people with a high degree of concern, care and respect for other fellow human beings can come together to help one another in a variety of issues and subjects. In fact, this is the genesis of the term (tongue in cheek) university or, in Spanish, "universidad". Its foundation lies on the fact that people do learn from one another all the time. Universidad Popular (UP) plays the role of catalyzer, convener of people with different skills, needs and resources but with one purpose in mind: help themselves become a better human being. Therefore, anyone interested in building a better tomorrow for everybody, and not only for a particular ethnicity, race, religion or language group, is more than welcome to join Universidad Popular. In addition, donations of kind (computers, books, flip charts, markers, blackboards, chalks, money, etc) and volunteers are always welcome any time of the year.
