Glenwood SchoolGlenwood School was founded in 1887 by Robert Todd Lincoln and Oscar Dudley, an agent for the Illinois Humane Society who discovered there were more neglected and abandoned children on the streets of Chicago than stray animals. Glenwood's mission is to provide a quality educational program and residential campus environment for children from lower income and single parent families who seek positive alternatives to home and community situations that impede opportunities for these children to achieve their potential. Today, we still hold true to our mission. A privately- funded 501(c)(3) organization, Glenwood's annual operating funds are met thanks to devoted community friends and businesses who care and have identified the need for an organization such as Glenwood School. Our unique services are provided at almost no cost to the families that we support. In fact, Glenwood pays more than 97% of tuition for most families. Children come to Glenwood from the greater Chicago Metropolitan area. Our academic center is fully accredited serving grades 2nd through 8th; our older students attend a local high school. Children whose family situations are stable enough to live at home can enroll in our 'day school' program, where they attend Glenwood for class and after-school supervision. The children at Glenwood are Good kids from unfortunate backgrounds situations they cannot change or control: financial devastation, gang violence, divorce, and death, just to name a few. Glenwood School has two campuses, our South Campus is located in Glenwood, Illinois 18700 South Halsted Street and our St. Charles location, built in 1994 and dedicated as Rathje Campus in 2000 located 41W400 Silver Glen Road. We hope you will choose to help these deserving youngsters by supporting GLenwood School and its mission. |
