BNICEH (Black Network In Children's Emotional Health)
BNICEH (be nicer), the Black Network in Children's Emotional Health, consists of BNICEH SmokeOut Campaign, IMPRUVE (Independent Movement of Paratransit Riders for Unity, Vehicles Equality) and Child Welfare and Juvenile Justice Consortium.
We are a registered nonprofit in the state of Illinois.
Current priority projects through 2012 are:
- to help paratransit riders regain affordable fare on PACE paratransit in Chicago
- to help youth members (most of them have disabilities) ages 16 through 29 get trained, certified and mentored as video producers
- run a van pool program with people with disabilities
- to help paratransit riders and drivers gain ownership of paratransit services
- to work with Rider Driver Alliance to use the movie ‘Bus Riders Union” as an organizing tool for public transit ownership by riders and drivers
- plan Transit Summit with various disability and community groups
- plan 2nd National Black Mental Health Forum (first was in 1993)
- plan Disability Resource & Business Center that offers longer hours for people with Disabilities to use computers and allows members special privileges to plan
We have succeeded in legislative advocacy to protect the rights of youth with mental, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral health disabilities or problems and advocated for family rights.
We support Restoration of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). We support Restoration of the Monthly ADA Pass in NE IL.
