Atlanta Ballers Youth Association - ABYA
The Atlanta Ballers Youth Association was founded in 2003 as a 501© (3) non-profit organization to support youth athletics in our community. The overall vision is to recruit as many socially and academically at risk young athletes in our area. The goal is to encourage and guide them toward higher athletic and academic challenges. It is from our knowledge and love of the game that has and will continue to serve as an influence in the lives of these athletes. Seeing the need in our community and understanding the desire for a more competitive structure in sports, a plan was formed to raise such an organization by its founder Fred L. Rogers.
Over the past two years of the ABYA’s existence the association has grown from a plan to get involved, to a well respected club of great coaches, supportive parents, and admirers of our efforts all over the state. Having grown from (1) competitive team, to (9) teams over this past summer is a great achievement.
In Georgia alone, there is a great need for more involvement in the lives of these athletes. The lack of such involvement is reflected in many of our children losing an everyday battle against drugs, violence, teen pregnancy, crime, aids, and prison. The ABYA offers not only athletic training but also stands as a role model for a well rounded successful life of these youths.
Success here is not defined only as the gaining of wealth and fame but of other virtues that are also important to the development and further success in the lives of our children. It is to develop respect, commitment, honor and the desire to succeed in whatever their goals are in life. The ABYA reflects and encourages these virtues in the lives of all of whom we support.
To help organize such an association would not have been possible without the support of committed leaders, great coaches, and supportive parents who believe in what we are doing. Our mission is to develop “outstanding leaders in athletics and life”.
I know this is the right thing to do and stand behind the association commitments. The ABYA is truly a worthwhile investment in the lives of our future, which is our children and their endeavors.
