Facts Physical activity should be increased by reducing sedentary time (e.g., watching television, playing computer video games or talking on the phone). Physical activity should be fun for children and adolescents. Parents should try to be role models for active lifestyles and provide children with opportunities for increased physical activity. All children, even less-coordinated ones, need to be physically active. Activity may be particularly helpful for the physical and psychological well-being of children with a weight problem. All children age 2 and older should participate in at least 30 minutes of enjoyable, moderate-intensity physical activities every day that are developmentally appropriate and varied. If your child or children don't have a full 30-minute activity break each day, try to provide at least two 15-minute periods or three 10-minute periods in which they can engage in vigorous activities appropriate to their age, gender and stage of physical and emotional development. Smile Program We are committed to helping one child at a time. Through our community efforts we are bringing one smile at a time to a child. Who We Are? We are a national nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the epidemic of overweight, undernourished and sedentary youth by focusing on changes in a child's home, schools, and out of school activities. We plan to work in all 50 states and the District of Columbia to improve children's nutrition and increase physical activity by encouraging them to get active in activities such as martial arts and practice healthy living and eating. We have set our goals to offer free Martial Arts seminars to Needy Children and families in addition to Healthy Lifestyle education. Status have shown that children who have a sports or activity to participate, in this case a Martial Art, they have 20% less body fat and have an increase in grade point average at school. So exercise and healthy living not only keep the children healthy, it actually helps to create a smarter child as well. Visit the Standing Proud, Inc. home page. |
