Silverlake Youth Services, is comprised of a number of private, not-for-profit, community care facilities which exist for the sole purpose of providing a home environment and psychological care for troubled young men. Our program is based on an individually oriented treatment model.

The influence of the child care staff on the adolescents in their care cannot be overestimated. This is why Silverlake Youth Services requires all child care staff to participate in the Residential Child Care Worker Certification process. The National Resource Center for Youth Services awards the certification to all staff who complete 48 hours of course work and pass a written exam. We are proud to be able to provide this on-site training to our child care staff with one of our own NRC Certified Trainers.

Our resident population is typically made up of young men ages 14 to 18 years old who exhibit one or more of the following characteristics:
  • Learning Disabilities
  • Educational Problems
  • Alcohol/Drugs Abuse
  • Self-destructive Behavior
  • Behavior and/or Conduct Disorders
  • Severe Depression
  • Hyperactivity
  • Victims of Physical or Emotional Abuse
  • Victims of Sexual Abuse
  • Tendencies to Commit Arson
  • Semi-violent Behavior
  • Attachment Disorders
Young men who have been neglected or abandoned are also candidates for admission to one of our group homes. However, those diagnosed as actively psychotic are typically not appropriate for our program, although we may accept those whose symptoms are in remission or are controlled through medication.

Because of the wide variety of family, social, and individual problems we see, our approach to treating our residents follows a model based on building a variety of life skills beginning with psychological and continuing with social academic, physical, and occupational skills. In Particular, we rely heavily on the Reality Therapy approach. However, we also use the following therapeutic modalities when treating our residents:
  • Individual Therapy
  • Art Therapy
  • Play Therapy
  • Behavior Modification
  • Group Therapy
  • Drug/Alcohol Therapy
  • 12-Step Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA)
  • Family Therapy
Our Life Skills Program is designed to help our residents learn important skills which will give them the opportunity to be successful throughout their lives. The Life Skills Curriculum Includes the following components:
  • Adolescent Development
  • Personal Health
  • Day-to-Day Living
  • Career Planning
  • Financial Management
  • Job Skills
  • Emancipation Skills
  • Sports Activities
Within the emancipation job development component, our boys are trained and actually place at job sites within the community as well as at our group homes.

This organization has informed us they are qualified to receive tax deductible contributions.
