ShowIcare, a non-profit organization started by two students, offers everyone an opportunity to respond to the middle eastern crisis. As students, we recognized that small bank accounts and limited resources may prevent people from contributing to humanitarian efforts. However, as computer users we recognized that people wanted to. How many times have you signed an e-mail or passed a forward to make a difference? Have you ever seen those actions result in a positive outcome? Neither have we. Through this site we hope to change that. By asking everyone who visits to donate one dollar, we hope to raise enough money to fund a mission that brings food and supplies to Iraqi families.
Yesterday, our dollars bought at least 80 million Americans fast food, 15 million cups of coffee and 4 million movie tickets. How was life in Iraq? The BBC news service reports that 5.9 million Iraqi children are undernourished. That 49% of Iraqi families' earnings do not meet their basic needs. That two-thirds of Iraqis depend heavily on government food hand-outs. Yesterday, how was life for you?
We believe a world exists in which everyone can experience the same quality of life that we do. Our dream won't come true over nite. But, this site brings us one step closer to making this dream a reality. Think of ways you spent a dollar yesterday. Why not make today different.
