Share-A-PetShare-a-Pet is a non-profit organization dedicated to sharing love and improving lives by offering pet assisted therapy. A large percentage of our population has become subject to neglect and depression. The residents of long-term care facilities have given up their homes, their loved ones, their valued possessions and their adored pets. We have set out to restore some joy to their lives by sharing the love of our pets with them. We have experienced such a tremendous satisfaction from visiting the elderly and otherwise restricted that we can't help but get excited whenever we have new volunteers join our Share-a-Pet Volunteer Family. You and your dog will go into the facilities with the intention of giving love and attention and that is what you and your pet will receive back, multiplied by one hundred. The unconditional love of pets is an immediate ice breaker, with residents often expressing their interest and enthusiasm the moment you first walk through the door. I can personally tell you that you are about to join an organization that will allow you to make a real difference in many people's lives. The joy that you are sharing in the love of your animals can be an enriching and healing experience. The effects of that healing can be far reaching both emotionally and physically. Share-a-pet’s San Francisco Family would love to hear from you. People who enjoy spending time with their dog, and who would like to share their pet's generous love with others will enjoy volunteering with Share-A-Pet San Francisco. After attending a Volunteer Orientation & Training, and passing the Therapy Obedience Professional testing of your dog, and finally an evaluation of you both doing a visit, Share-A-Pet will place you in a facility near you to begin volunteering. Pet therapy teams (volunteers and their dogs) will visit for an hour each week with the residents of nursing homes, hospitals, and children's centers, and help the people there by providing uplifting visits from loving pets.
