Just Think FoundationThe Just Think Foundation is a Sausalito-based nonprofit organization established to stimulate critical thinking about popular media. Just Think strives to equip young people with the literacy tools critical for their future. These tools include the ability to comprehend the content of media and master the technical skills to produce media messages in various forms. Its collaborations with educational organizations, new media experts and the entertainment industry result in a viable exploration of real-world media literacy. Just Think is based on the belief that a better understanding of the media surrounding us makes for a better understanding of the society in which we live. Their media literacy curricula and professional development programs for educators and parents teach adults about the key roles they can play in young people's engagement with media, providing adults with methods to facilitate the critical-thinking process about the media in their minds and the minds of youth alike. Highly skilled and popular as media literacy presenters, Just Think awards and recognitions include endorsements from Jimmy Carter, Hillary Clinton, U.S. Secretary of Education Richard Riley, San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, and The Sausalito School Board (for their Developing Minds program). Other current Just Think projects include co-sponsorship of the International Children's Summit with the Walt Disney Company and UNESCO, a countywide media literacy campaign sponsored by the Sonoma County Department of Health Services, a collaboration with Menlo-Atherton High School's R.I.S.E. program, and the "Body Image Project," a multimedia ad campaign exploring the connection between economics and the social conditioning that defines body image. You can check them out on the Internet at www.justthink.org. "Mass media is an integral part of today's society. Through the years, it has established itself as the single most powerful vehicle for American ideology. It suggests what we should value, defines how we should value, and feeds us the tenets of why we value as we do". (Just Think) Visit the Just Think Foundation home page. |
