G.U.I.A., Guatemalan Unity Information Agency
GUIA, is an immigrant based and immigrant led, federally recognized non-profit organization, which is improving the status of the communities by means of education and services(legal and social), providing them with programs that are relevant to their everyday lives and very critical for their future success. Grouped in April 1997, GUIA is one of the fastest growing non-profit organization in southern California, trying to link the private sector with education programs. The students, in a series of weekly meetings, gain an understanding of the American free market system, how they can prosper in this country, and are shown the economic and social benefits of getting a better education. GUIA, concentrates in areas where families are economically disadvantaged, with special emphasis and focus in the communities of urban core. GUIA, receives no funding from any organization or government agency. Our programs are delivered at no cost to students; and our only funding, comes from donations that are given to us by the people we serve. With the economic help of organizations that would be willing to give back a portion of what the communities are giving them, we could serve them better and could reach more families.
