Global Education PartnershipGlobal Education Partnership (G.E.P.) is an international non-profit organization with divisions in Oakland, California (U.S.), Kenya, Guatemala, Tanzania and Indonesia. The mission of G.E.P. is to “provide access to educational resources that increase the capacity of young people to become employable and self-reliant in today’s global marketplace.” In the San Francisco Bay Area, Global Education Partnership offers the Entrepreneurship and Employment Training Program (EETP) to approximately 250 low-income youth per year. Students learn entrepreneurship skills using the socially responsible business model (how to succeed in business e.g. finance, marketing, accounting, youth-designed service projects); work readiness skills (e.g. resume-writing, interviewing, presentation skills); skills for the global marketplace (e.g. Internet communication with students in G.E.P.’s international divisions; students manage a business selling imported handcrafts); computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet). G.E.P. also offers Follow-up Services to assist graduates of the EETP with college guidance, job and internship placements, and starting businesses. In Kenya, Guatemala, Tanzania and Indonesia, Global Education Partnership matches community-raised funds for school-based development projects (e.g., textbooks, desks, classroom construction, etc.) in rural communities in addition to offering the EETP and Follow-up Services in Global Education Partnership’s rural computer facilities (each stocked with 25 Windows-based Pentium computers).
