The Gerardo And Kathy Mejia Foundation is a non-profit organization under 501(C) 3 non-profit law. The Foundation was developed with a specific purpose that through a message love and kindness we might positively change a generation one child at a time. Our vision is to create a healthy and stable standard of living by providing food, clothing, shelter, education and healthcare to children and families that without help will continue to live a life without hope. Our desire is to give these under-privileged children the opportunity to learn, dream and believe that they can become self-reliant contributing members of society. Most importantly we hope to show them that they have not been forgotten, not in their orphanages, not in their villages and not on their streets.
Our journey begins in the small country located in South America bordering the Pacific Ocean and the equator known as Ecuador. Nearly 40% of the population is below the national poverty line with 45% of children under 5 succumbing to malnutrition. With population nearly doubling in the last two decades the amount of abandoned children is dramatically rising.We are currently preparing for our first annual "Holiday Toy Drive 2009". From December 15th through the holiday season. We will be distributing toys to the less fortunate children of Ecuador with focus on the orphanages, hospitals and the poverty stricken villages and streets of Ecuador. Through a toy, a smile, and love "The Gerardo and Kathy Mejia Foundation" in conjunction with "Jakks Pacific Toys", one of the largest toy manufacturers in the world, will be hoping to change the life of these children just by restoring their faith, that through giving, someone cares and they have not been forgotten.Philanthropy is all about making a difference and in this tough economic time our country faces people like you continue to prove that there is no greater act in this world than giving. And through your charity you give everyone you touch hope. We are asking for your support. We are asking you to partner with us to make this event possible. The toys and the volunteers are in abundance but we are faced with the difficulty of the cost of shipping the containers and their storage prior to distribution in Ecuador. No donation is too big or too small!
