GAIO - Ghana Africa International OperationsAkwaaba! Welcome to our mission, our passion, our life's work. GAIO was started by one woman to help bridge the world through communication & education. We are committed to improving literacy & education in Africa and our first project is to finish building a library & cultural center to improve the lives & futures of the children of Akwatia, Ghana. Together with the Regional Chief of Akwatia, Nana Akwatiahene, we are facilitating the construction of a Library & Cultural Center for the 20,000 children in the region as well as the 35,000 adults who need to improve their literacy and job skills. GAIO is committed to raising the $70,000 to build the center. We are committed to using renewable energy and incorporating eco-friendly building practices. We are now in partnership with the University of California San Diego (UCSD)'s Jacob School of Engineering. The Teams In Engineering Service (TIES) program at UCSD has offered to provide design and advice on construction on sustainable features and methods of incorporating these into the building plans. (TIES is an innovative academic program that establishes partnerships between engineering students, advisors and non-profit organizations.) We are working with renown San Diego based playwright David Wiener as he is creating a Theatre and Performing Arts Program for the Library. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for interested people to experience one or more aspects of the performing arts: theatre studies, acting, singing, directing, producing, costuming, choreography, dancing, writing for stage, etc. The guiding vision and goal is to create a theatre arts curriculum that is a combination of personal enrichment, recreation and community activity, rather that a professional theatre training program. We are also excited to now be working with Class ACT- Arts, Children, Technology, Inc., a non profit dedicated to fostering development of the performing arts, visual arts and technology programming to benefit children in the local community & the developing world. We are honored to be working with them to bring excellent educational exchange programs to the children in Akwatia. We have "adopted" Great Vision School. This is a modern library and cultural center that will improve the lives of the community members in Akwatia and beyond. It is a bridge to the world, a place where children can dream, hope, and aspire to be something beyond their current limitations. Let's bring them today's technology to create a better future for their families & their children's families. Please consider becoming a sponsor or give what you can. GAIO has obtained non profit status so donations are tax deductible. We appreciate your support.
Wodi odo edferi (with love from) the children of Akwatia!
