Foundation for the People of Burma - FPBFPB's mission is to provide humanitarian aid to Burmese people of all ethnic backgrounds and religious beliefs. We respond to the basic needs of communities, supporting locally run projects in the following general areas: Health, Education, and Leadership Development. We also support special programs outside of these areas on occasion when merited. FPB was established in 1999 as the Burma People's Relief Group by Hal Nathan, Senior Portfolio Advisor at Seneca Capital Management. Practicing Buddhists, Hal and his partner, Gail Seneca, traveled to many countries in Asia, including Burma. Wanting to give back as much as possible to a primarily Buddhist country, and seeing the dire need for attention, assistance and resources in Burma and along the Thai-Burma border, Hal made this area his priority. (It should be noted that, despite Hal's own spiritual pursuits, FPB is not religiously affiliated and makes grants without regard to religion.) Initially FPB programs operated under the umbrella of the Buddhist Peace Fellowship in Berkeley, California. In September 2000 FPB was established as an independent California nonprofit corporation, exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. FPB is a public charity, not a private foundation. Therefore, all donations to FPB are deductible to the extent allowed by law. Visit the Foundation for the People of Burma home page. |
