Our mission at Fight 2 Walk Foundation is spinal cord injury recovery. This means reaching individuals and providing what they need to not just cope with life in a wheelchair, but overcome it. Our commitment is to provide these people with crucial advice, case working, counseling, and funding to inspire hope in the midst of catastrophe.
- Our Name
Our name Fight 2 Walk signifies two aspects of recovery: The struggle to walk again physically and also the fight to re-learn life’s everyday routines. Our goal is to help those with recent spinal cord injuries reach their highest level of functionality possible, whether it is walking again, competing on an Olympic level, or simply taking care of oneself day-to-day.
- What We Believe
We at Fight 2 Walk Foundation believe that some spinal cord injuries can walk again. This is proven as individuals continue to recover and defy all odds. Why not go for it? Why not take a year and give everything to find out if recovery is possible? In the meantime, creating the optimal positive environment is vital. The first step is taking care of all monetary needs and acclimating to life with an SCI. The next step is returning to a similar lifestyle and pursuing the same passions as before. Recovery is powered by the human will to survive. Now is the time to fight and we are here to help.
- Facets of F2W
- Hospital visits: We will do our best to seek out newly injured SCI’s and send out an F2W representative to the hospital. There we can begin the process of instilling hope. We will make ourselves available to SCI’s and their families, answering any questions or concerns that arise. F2W is not limited to helping SCI’s in the general vicinity, but will travel across the nation if funding and time are available.
- Case Working: While in the hospital, things can get chaotic and details left unattended. There are things that need to be dealt with that the individual and his/her family may have no idea about. We plan to step in, form a checklist of things that need to be done, and delegate the responsibility among the individual’s family and friends.
- Home visits: We would like to create lasting friendships with the individual SCI’s we come into contact with. Spending time with them at home and elsewhere, especially through the adjustment period, over time will allow for a mentoring friendship to form.
- Mentoring: Connecting the individual SCI’s with someone who has already spent significant time dealing with a similar level injury can smooth the acclimating process.
- Counseling: F2W representatives who are personally acquainted with the pain involved in suffering from an SCI are available to listen and talk. It takes someone who has been there to truly understand.
- Scholarships: We will help raise funds and provide partial scholarships for recovery-focused personal training, sports programs, and medical equipment otherwise unaffordable for the individual in need.
- Donated Equipment: We will accept, store, and distribute donated/used equipment for individual use.
- Resources: Please visit our website for up-to-date resource information
