Designated Drivers AssociationThe Designated Drivers Association (DDA) has one goal: To reduce the number of injuries and death caused by DUI and DWI. We do this by providing a safe and free ride home for people in their own vehicles. The program operates every Friday and Saturday night, year-round. Teams work in pairs (usually male/female). They are issued Nextel radios/phones, identification badges, and cards to distribute at local bars and nightclubs where alcohol is being served. When called upon, one team member drives the intoxicated person home in that person's vehicle while the other volunteer follows behind in the team's car. The DDA, its volunteers and all supporters public and private are protected against liability lawsuits (should they occur) by two extensive insurance policies. Also, all volunteers must pass a criminal background check and have a decent Motor Vehicle Report from the DMV. We currently operate in San Diego, Orange County, Los Angeles, Sacramento and Richmond (VA). We hope that within the next 10 years every major city in the country can benefit from the DDA and its volunteers.
