Columbia Park Boys & Girls ClubsFor over 100 years, Columbia Park Boys and Girls Clubs has served children from ages six to eighteen in a nationally recognized program of innovative and effective youth development. Our mission is to work with children of all backgrounds to help them gain the qualities needed to become responsible citizens and leaders. We serve over 2,500 youth at clubs in the Mission, the Excelsior, the Tenderloin and Visitacion Valley. Our clubhouses are safe, fun places for children to learn and grow with support and guidance from our professional youth development staff. Children become members of Columbia Park for just $5.00 per year. We are open 300 days and evenings a year, after school and all day in the summer. We offer a diverse array of activities in five core program areas: Education and Career Development Health and Life Skills Sports, Fitness and Social Recreation Fine Arts and Crafts Within each core area, our programming is designed to help young people develop a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness and influence. Whether the activity is completion of a homework assignment, taking turns playing a game of foosball, doing a research project on the Internet, or volunteering for neighborhood clean-up projects, the goal is the same that youth learn how much they are capable of doing, and how much it matters that they do it. All program activities are designed to introduce youth members to a broad range of ideas, cultures and opportunities. Staff lead group activities and also work with kids one-on-one, assisting them with goal setting, decision making and problem solving. Most importantly, our staff forge respectful and trusting relationships with young members, serving as caring friends and role models. The result is young people who have the confidence to pursue their dreams and the skills to make them a reality. Visit the Columbia Park Boys & Girls Clubs home page. |
