CleanSlate Inc.CleanSlate started in 1995 as an effort by the Director and Founder Marianne Diaz to meet the needs of a population that is under-served. As an ex-felon and one time participant in community violence the founder was determined to design a program that included counseling for the internal healing of individuals, families and community as well as changing the external reminders of a life once lived. CleanSlate was born at White Memorial Medical Center under the WMMC Foundation and with the help of Dr. Vanore and E.N.T., who believed in the concept of providing service at an affordable price to those who need it most. The program started out as a gang member program in the first year and soon we were faced with questions about how others can participate in the Rage Resolution/Violence Recovery and tattoo removal programs if they are not gang members. Through our inclusive philosophy and our desire to serve those who need to be served we opened our services to anyone affected by violence as a survivor or perpetrator or witness. We soon found that women and men impacted by domestic violence, youth affected by school bullying and gangs, parents affected by power and control parenting and others who live in fear and want a change to occur started coming to our clinics and contacting CleanSlate about our many support services. We have been a stand alone not-for-profit 501 (c) 3 since 2001 and have been in collaboration with Southern California Counseling Center, Children's Institute Inc., Whittier-Rio Hondo Aids Project, El Centro Del Pueblo and Childrens Bureau to provide services to a diverse population.
We have been contracted by several agencies and the La Habra school District to provide our Community Empowerment Programs throughout the years and now we are being welcomed into the City of Hawaiian Gardens thanks in huge part to the efforts of their Community Outreach dynamo Sylvia Gooden. We hope to provide years of service to this amazing community.
