The Broadcasting Training ProgramThe MIBTP was formed by Patrice Williams out of frustration in trying to secure work in the broadcast industry as an african-american. MIBTP is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization created in 1993 to address the issue of diversity in the newsroom. What makes our organization so unique is our approach to the problem. Our mission is to place three to ten trainees per year into their first news reporter trainee position or their first news management trainee position. MIBTP has asked that the participating tv/radio stations pay the trainee minimum wage (and above), while MIBTP supplements that income with a stipend (if funding permits). The training period lasts for six to nine months. Upon completion of their training, MIBTP will help keep these individuals within the workforce by helping them locate permanent work. The MIBTP not only creates jobs for minorities but also honors top journalists at our annual "Striving for Excellence Awards & Benefit Dinner." (Past keynote speakers have been Sam Donaldson, Carole Simpson and Dan Rather. The MIBTP also have a nation-wide membership, a World Wide Web Home Page, monthly internet auction http://travel.to/hollywood bi-monthly newsletter (The Broadcaster), a bi-weekly electronic newsletter, (Electronic Broadcaster), vehicle donation service, just to name a few.
